What to expect from the upcoming JSW-Chery Jaecoo J5?
JSW is working with Chery to launch the rebranded cars in India by the end of this year, which will mark JSW’s entrance in the Indian automotive segment. One such model is likely going to be the Chery-owned Jaecoo J5 SUV, which has been spied once again recently.
Internationally, this car is sold in plug-in hybrid and electric avatars. While the previous spy shots could not clarify it, the latest photos have revealed that it will be launched in BEV avatar in India.
The Jaecoo J5 has already been homologated, and it features a Range Rover-esque design. The front boasts sleek LED headlamps and a closed vertical grille with a sculpted bumper, whilst the subtle shoulder line and big glass area, along with the big wheels, make it look like a mini-Range Rover.
The rear profile also looks identical to the British luxury SUV as it gets a roof-mounted spoiler and connected LED taillights with a vertical tailgate and a sculpted rear bumper. Dimensionally, the J5 measures 4,380mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,650mm in height, which places it in the same category as Tata Sierra EV.
On the inside, the global model comes loaded with a minimalist cabin design, featuring leather upholstery, a big 13.2-inch vertical infotainment screen, a 8.8-inch standalone digital driver console, and convenience features like a 50W wireless charging pad, an 8-speaker sound system, etc.
It also gets the Level 2 ADAS features, including the high-beam assist, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian automatic emergency braking system, rear-cross traffic alert, and a 540-degree camera. These safety features are also likely to be offered on the Indian-spec model.
Powering the J5 electric SUV is a front-wheel drive 61kWh battery pack that develops 207 bhp and 288 Nm. It offers a CLTC-approved range of 461 km on a full charge, while it can sprint 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
Considering that the J5 is positioned in the B-SUV segment, it is likely to be priced around Rs 15-20 lakh. JSW will launch the badge engineered Jetour T2 PHEV first, later followed by the iCar V23 and the Jaecoo J5 electric models, with a launch possibility in the next 12 months.
