Key highlights
- Kia Syros EV spotted testing in South Korea with dual charging ports and aero wheels
- Shares design cues with ICE Syros but adds EV-specific touches like lime green brake calipers
- Expected to launch in early 2026, positioned below the Carens Clavis EV
The Syros EV, a pure-electric version of the Syros SUV, has been spotted testing for the first time in South Korea. The camouflaged prototype was seen plugged into a public DC fast charger, revealing key design cues despite the heavy disguise.
From what we can see, Kia isn’t reinventing the wheel—literally or figuratively. The Syros EV retains the boxy silhouette of its ICE sibling but adds EV-specific flourishes like aero-optimized alloy wheels, dual charging ports, and lime green brake calipers, a detail usually reserved for Kia’s performance-oriented GT models.
Design and Features
Even under wraps, the Syros EV shows off some interesting bits:
- Vertically stacked LED headlamps and squared-off wheel arches
- Flush door handles and upright tailgate for a clean, urban look
- Front and rear disc brakes with lime green calipers
- Dual charging ports on both front fenders
- Aero-style 16-inch alloy wheels for better efficiency
- ADAS suite and parking sensors visible on the test mule
Inside, expect a familiar layout with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen, and possibly ventilated seats. The cabin will likely mirror the ICE Syros but run EV-specific software and offer unique trim options.
Powertrain and Range
While Kia hasn’t confirmed specs, the Syros EV is expected to use the K1 platform, shared with the Hyundai Inster and Casper. Battery options could include:
- 42 kWh pack with ~300 km range
- 49 kWh pack with ~355 km range
Both use Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) cells and support fast charging. The Syros EV will likely be front-wheel drive, similar to the Carens Clavis EV.
Positioning and Rivals
Kia will position the Syros EV below the Carens Clavis EV, targeting buyers who want a compact electric SUV without breaking the bank. Expected rivals include:
- Tata Punch.ev
- Citroen eC3
- MG Windsor EV
Pricing could fall between INR 13–18 lakh, making it Kia’s most affordable EV in India when it arrives in early 2026.
