Made-in-India Michelin tyres: Everything you need to know
When it comes to the premium tyres for cars, Michelin has been a top-most name globally. However, the French tyre maker was hit when India banned the import of tyres. At the time, Michelin was importing tyres in India from its South Asia-based production facilities.
However, after a long struggle, the brand is now all set to take the premium tyre market in India by storm. The company has unveiled a new range of India-made tyres, which also marks the first-ever domestically manufactured Michelin tyres.
Speaking of the details, the brand has set up a new production facility in Chennai by spending Rs 686 crore. This facility will produce a wide range of tyres, including the Primacy 5, Pilot Sport 5, and LTX series. The first made-in-India tyre to launch will be the Primacy 5.
These tyre options will range from 16 to 22 inches, and the brand has a target to launch the Primacy 5 by the first quarter of 2026. With the local manufacturing, we are expecting the prices to be aggressive.
Meanwhile, the new Chennai-based manufacturing plant has been set up with a 100% sustainability goal for 2050. As of now, the plant will operate on 45% recycled materials, which is set to grow to 50% by 2030.
