Mahindra XEV 9S: India’s first Born-Electric 7-seater SUV

Key highlights

  • Mahindra XEV 9S to make its global debut on November 27 at the ‘Scream Electric’ event in Bengaluru
  • Built on Mahindra’s dedicated INGLO skateboard platform with a flat-floor layout and sliding second-row seats
  • First authentic 7-seater electric SUV from Mahindra, designed for space, stability, and family comfort

Mahindra’s turning the volume all the way up on its electric game with something properly ambitious, the XEV 9S, a full-size 7-seater electric SUV built entirely on the company’s dedicated INGLO skateboard platform.

The XEV 9S is set to make its global debut on November 27 at Mahindra’s ‘Scream Electric’ event in Bengaluru, marking one year since the brand’s official electric journey began. And by the looks of it, Mahindra wants this one to be the showstopper.

Unlike older models adapted from ICE platforms, this one’s born electric, no compromises, no cut corners. The skateboard architecture means a flat floor, sliding second-row seats, and a super-low center of gravity, giving the cabin a genuine sense of space and stability. Seven adults can actually sit in comfort without having to play human Tetris and that’s saying something.

Design and Platform

The XEV 9S is expected to carry on Mahindra’s new-age EV design language seen on the XEV 9e and BE 6. Expect connected LED DRLs, triangular headlamps, and a blanked-off front grille that looks clean and futuristic.

Inside, things should look properly premium. Rumour has it the SUV will feature a triple-screen dashboard setup like the XEV 9e. A 12.3-inch driver display, an infotainment touchscreen, and a co-driver entertainment screen. Pair that with ventilated seats, ambient lighting, a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, and possibly even massaging seats, and you’ve got a cabin that screams tech-luxury.

Features and Safety

While Mahindra’s yet to drop the full spec sheet, expect the XEV 9S to be loaded to the brim. Likely highlights include:

  • Dual-zone or tri-zone climate control
  • Multiple wireless charging pads
  • A 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system
  • 360-degree camera and head-up display
  • Level-2 ADAS with lane assist, 7 airbags, ESC, and TPMS

The INGLO platform supports large battery packs and advanced thermal management, so a 500+ km range seems very likely. Fast charging and all-wheel-drive variants are also expected to make the cut.

Pricing and Positioning

The XEV 9S will be Mahindra’s flagship electric SUV, sitting above the XEV 9e and BE 6. Prices are expected to start around INR 30 lakh, with fully loaded variants likely crossing the INR 40 lakh mark. Once launched, it’ll square up against rivals like the Tata Harrier EV, BYD Atto 3, and upcoming MG electric SUVs.
