Mahindra XEV 9S launched at INR 19.95 lakh

Mahindra has launched the new XEV 9S, a full-size electric 7-seater SUV, at an aggressive starting price of INR 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand is positioning it as India’s Big New Electric, and after looking at the spec sheet, the description fits. This EV isn’t built on an adapted platform. It stands on the INGLO architecture, the company’s dedicated born-electric base and packs features that you usually expect from something far more expensive.

Battery and Powertrain

The XEV 9S arrives with three battery options: 59 kWh and a flagship 79 kWh pack. The top-spec variant pushes out 285 PS and 380 Nm, making it the most powerful EV in its class. Real-world range for the larger packs sits around 500 km. Mahindra claims a 20–80% top-up in just 20 minutes with compatible DC chargers.

Design

You see Mahindra’s new design language in full force here. The exterior looks sharp and confident, while the cabin is all about comfort and calm. Thanks to the electric-first layout, the XEV 9S offers the largest cabin volume in its segment, with up to 4076 litres across the first and second row and a 527-litre boot. There’s even a 150-litre frunk, which feels like a reward for people who keep losing their Type-C cables.

Inside, Mahindra has stacked the SUV with tech. Triple 31.24 cm screens stretch across the dashboard, powered by Qualcomm’s 8155 chip on most variants and the higher-end 8295 Snapdragon on top models. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, 5G support, an OTT-ready interface, and Dolby Atmos audio through a 16-speaker Harman Kardon setup make this one of the most connected cabins in the mainstream EV space.

Safety and other features

Safety hasn’t taken a back seat either. There’s L2 and L2+ ADAS (depending on variant), seven airbags on the higher trims, a 360-degree camera, driver monitoring, and Mahindra’s Secure360 system with live recording and remote communication. The brand is also promising segment-leading ground clearance at 205 mm, which should make the XEV 9S relatively pothole-proof.

The ride experience should be equally polished. Adaptive dampers, i-Link front suspension, and a 5-link rear setup have been engineered to offer more stability at high speeds while keeping things comfortable for passengers. If Mahindra has tuned this right, the XEV 9S could easily feel like a far more premium vehicle on the road.

Bookings open on January 14, 2026, and deliveries begin on January 23. Mahindra expects strong demand, and with this pricing, they aren’t wrong.
