Maruti Suzuki Celerio Global NCAP rating explained

The Celerio hatchback that recently went under the rigorous crash testing by the Global NCAP has scored a fair 3-star overall rating. However, the final report also says that the body shell and the footwell area of the hatchback are unstable and crumble under high impact.

As far as the details are concerned, the Celerio scored 18.04 points out of 34 in adult occupant safety, while it managed to get 18.57 points out of 49 in child occupant safety. Mind you, Global NCAP agency used the six-airbag version of the Celerio, and found that the driver has weak chest protection and the footwell area is unstable in the frontal impact.

Moreover, knee protection has also been reported marginal during the frontal tests, while the head protection has been rated good for both driver and the passenger. The report states that the footwell and the body shell are unstable and can not take load any further.

The more concerning result was for the children as it achieved only 18.57 points out of 49 in child occupant safety tests. In the frontal impact tests, the 3-year-old dummy experienced head exposure, poor chest protection, and poor neck protection. A similar result was observed for the 18-month-old dummy with the rear-facing seat.
