Everything we know about the Maruti Suzuki Hybrid MPV
It is not a hidden fact that Maruti is developing a new series of 1.2-litre hybrid engines that will eventually replace the current petrol engines on most models, including Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Fronx, and even Ertiga. However, the latest online leak suggests that a new, sub-4-meter MPV is also under development that will be launched by 2029.
Just like the Solio, a Kei MPV that is popular in Japan, this unnamed MPV will offer more space on the inside, while being small on the outside. This practicality will be matched with the strong hybrid engine, which is likely to be made by using the current 1.2-litre Z12E engine.
Maruti has codenamed it YVF, and it will be positioned under Ertiga and XL6. Meanwhile, it is likely to offer a long wheelbase of up to 2.48 meters, which will benefit its cabin space and comfort quotient.
Maruti will not only power it with the hybrid engine, but it will also offer the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as well. Globally, it will be sold with an AWD too. Furthermore, the brand has an internal target to manufacture 1 lakh units of this MPV in the first year itself, with 30,000 units reserved for exports, and 12,000 units will be hybrid.
Maruti’s first series hybrid car launch will be Fronx, whose launch timeline has now been pushed to 2027 due to the difficulties in the packaging of the Z12E engine and the hybrid motor in the bonnet area.
