JSW MG Motor India has teased its next big electric SUV, and this one comes with three important firsts. The upcoming model, Hector Hawk will be a seven-seater electric SUV, the first MG product in India to use the company’s ADAPT platform.
The full reveal is scheduled for August 26, but MG has already opened pre-reservations. Interested buyers can reserve the SUV for Rs 21,000 through the company’s website.
Inspired by a fighter aircraft
MG isn’t revealing too much just yet. The teaser shows only selected portions of the SUV, keeping its overall design under wraps.
However, the company says the design takes inspiration from one of the iconic Allied fighter aircraft used during World War II. Exactly how that inspiration has translated into the SUV’s design remains to be seen.
The teaser does suggest a fairly bold design, rather than a conventional three-row SUV. MG says the new model has been designed to offer a distinctive character, although the company hasn’t revealed detailed dimensions or styling elements yet.
Reports also suggest that the Hector Hawk EV will be heavily inspired by the Wuling Starlight 560 that is being sold in China. By that theory, the Hector Hawk will be slightly larger in size than the Hector Plus.
First MG on the ADAPT platform
The new SUV will be the first product built on MG’s ADAPT platform. The company says the model will expand its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) portfolio in India, while bringing a combination of new technology and a different design approach.
MG hasn’t revealed the battery capacity, motor specifications or claimed range yet. There is also no word on whether the SUV will be offered with one or two electric motors.
For now, MG has given buyers two dates to remember: August 26 for the full reveal and August 13 for the opening of pre-reservations.
