Everything you need to know about the MG Majestor
Exterior design and dimensions
The Majestor SUV is essentially a badge-engineered Maxus D90 SUV, a D+ segment SUV that is popular in international markets like China. However, it is based on the Gloster itself and features extensive design changes on the outside.
At the front, it boasts the ‘Dragon Eye’ sharp LED DRLs, vertical LED headlamps, and a new ‘Mosaic Matrix’ front grille that has a big MG logo and chrome highlights. The front bumper includes the bash plate and silver skid plate garnish as well.
On the side profile, it looks almost identical to the Gloster, save for the flared wheel arches, protective guards on the doors, fixed side steps, and 19-inch dual-tone alloys on the top-spec variants. The rear profile gets a set of connected LED lights, large Majestor lettering, and a sporty bumper with dual chrome exhaust tips.
In terms of dimensions, it measures 5,046mm in length, 2,016mm in width, and 1,876mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,950mm, which is identical to the Gloster.
Interior updates and new features
Another upgrade that the existing Gloster owners will feel is the updated interiors of the Majestor. The cabin is draped in leather upholstery, while the dashboard features a sleeker design, new AC vents, a new 12.3-inch digital driver display, and a new 12.3-inch infotainment console.
Additionally, the front seats are power-adjustable in 12 ways for the driver and 8 ways for the passenger, including massage, ventilation, and memory functions. The top variants get the second row seats with optional ventilation as well. Meanwhile, the roof features a full-size panoramic sunroof, while the cabin is lit by 64-colour ambient lighting.
Furthermore, MG has introduced a new centre console design with buttons for 10 drive modes, electronic parking brake, start/stop, traction control, and HVAC functions. There are ample storage spaces and cubby holes inside the cabin, while the triple-zone AC keeps the interiors comfortable.
Customers can opt between 6- and 7-seater layouts, while the boot space on offer is 343 litres, which can be extended up to 1,350 litres with the third row folded down. The sound system has also been updated with a 12-speaker JBL unit, while it also gets dual-wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an electric tailgate, and a 220V socket for powering external products.
Engine specs of the MG Majestor
Powering the Majestor is the same engine as on the top-spec Gloster. This 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, twin-turbo diesel engine makes 215 bhp and 478 Nm. It is paired to an 8-speed torque converter auto gearbox.
MG claims that the Majestor is built for off-roading as it gets 810 mm of water wading capacity and 219 mm of ground clearance. Moreover, its 10 terrain modes can push the car through almost any situation. Meanwhile, it also gets a dedicated ‘M-Crawl’ function that has a dedicated low-speed transfer case and three differential locks.
Safety features
The new Majestor is the first D+ SUV in India to offer a Level 2 ADAS safety suite. The safety features of the Majestor include the adaptive cruise control, lane keep and lane change assist, blind spot monitoring and alert, front collision avoidance, auto-emergency braking, rear-cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, and more.
When will it launch in India?
JSW MG Motor India has announced that the Majestor will be introduced in April. It will be offered in four variants: Sharp 4X2 (7-seater), Savvy 4X2 (7-seater), Savvy 4X2 (6-seater), and Savvy 4X4 (7-seater).
It will be positioned above the Gloster, and its rivals will include the Toyota Fortuner Legender, Skoda Kodiaq, and the new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line.
