MG Windsor becomes India’s best-selling electric car of 2025

Key highlights

  • MG Windsor becomes India’s highest-selling electric car in calendar year 2025
  • Over 46,700 units sold, an industry first for a single EV model
  • Strong demand from families and non-metro markets drives consistent monthly sales

JSW MG Motor India has hit a major milestone in the electric vehicle space. The MG Windsor has officially emerged as India’s No. 1 selling EV of 2025.

With sales crossing 46,700 units in a single calendar year, the Windsor has set a new benchmark for four-wheel electric vehicles in India. No other EV from any manufacturer has achieved this level of volume in one year. That alone makes this achievement worth sitting up and paying attention to.

Consistent sales and success mantra

What makes the story more interesting is consistency. The MG Windsor recorded strong month-on-month sales through the year, averaging around 4,000 units every month. That kind of steady demand is rare in the EV space, which often sees spikes around launches and festive seasons. The Windsor, instead, behaved like a proper mass-market car.

A big part of this success comes from how the Windsor positions itself. MG calls it India’s first Intelligent CUV, and the description fits. It blends the footprint and comfort of a sedan with the stance and practicality of an SUV. Families seem to have loved this mix. The cabin feels spacious, the seats are comfortable, and the feature list is generous without feeling gimmicky.

MG’s EV growth story also deserves mention here. The brand reported over 100 percent growth in EV sales in 2025 compared to the previous year. That is not just Windsor doing the heavy lifting, but there is no denying it played the starring role. What stands out is the demand coming from non-metro cities as well.

Tech specs

On the technical side, the Windsor offers two battery options. The standard version gets a 38 kWh pack with a claimed range of 332 km. The PRO variant ups the ante with a 52.9 kWh battery and a claimed range of 449 km. Power output stands at 100 kW with 200 Nm of torque, which is more than adequate for daily use. MG’s battery-as-a-service pricing has also helped lower the entry barrier for first-time EV buyers.

Inside, the Windsor focuses heavily on comfort. The reclining Aero Lounge seats and the large 15.6-inch touchscreen give it a premium vibe. It is clearly aimed at buyers who want their EV to feel special, not experimental.
