New FASTag rule and fee explained
The Ministry of Road Highways and Transport (MoRTH) has announced that a new FASTag rule will be implemented nationwide from November 15. The new update has been carefully constructed to increase the mobility at the toll gates and reduce the travel time and waiting time of vehicles.
As per the new rule, vehicles without a FASTag can pay 1.25 times the toll value via UPI payment. However, if the vehicle owner opts for cash payment, he or she will be subjected to twice the value of the toll fee.
Earlier, vehicles without a FASTag were required to pay twice the amount, irrespective of the mode of payment. This was a uniform decision that was implemented across India. However, considering the large volume of vehicles without FASTags, the government has decided to introduce the new rule.
Now, the anticipation is that the UPI payment option will substantially reduce the waiting time. Earlier, such vehicles used to get stuck at toll gates, further leading to congestion.
