New-gen Toyota Harrier – What to expect?
After a successful launch of the new-gen RAV4 Hybrid in the US, Toyota is now working to launch yet another crossover in the US, as well as in Japan. The new-gen Harrier SUV, which is likely going to be called Venza, is said to be under development as per an online report.
The new Harrier model is expected to be sleeker and sharper in terms of design, as opposed to the more conventional outlook of the current model. Additionally, it will be bigger in dimensions as the online report claims that it will get a wheelbase of 2,770 mm (80 mm more than the current model).
The new-gen Harrier will be 4,750 mm in length, while its height of 1,550 mm indicates that it will get a sloping roof design. With that said, the Harrier or the upcoming Venza will be positioned as a smart and stylish alternative to the more mainstream Toyota RAV4 Hybrid globally.
On the inside, the new model is expected to get a unique cabin design, which is likely to be inspired by the new-gen RAV4 Hybrid. It will feature a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with advanced wireless connectivity features and OTA updates.
As far as the powertrains are concerned, the online report claims that the new-gen Harrier will get a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol motor and a plug-in hybrid engine option. The new powertrain options are specifically designed for efficiency and quick performance in the urban environment.
Toyota is likely to launch the new-gen Harrier in Japan first. The expected launch timeline is 2027, while the US market will probably get it by late 2027.
Our verdict
The Harrier moniker has been present in the crucial car markets for Toyota for years. It is an urban SUV, which is not as popular as it is positioned alongside the successful RAV4. However, with the new-gen model, Toyota plans to transform it into a more stylish alternative to the RAV4.
