Toyota has announced the launch date of the ninth-generation Hilux in India. The new Hilux will be introduced on July 28, 2026, and it will be offered with the same powertrain options as available on the current Hilux.

What to expect from the new-gen Toyota Hilux?

The upcoming new-gen Hilux will be a substantial upgrade from the current model. Launched internationally last year, the new Hilux is the ninth generation of Toyota’s most iconic nameplates worldwide. While it is based on the same IMV platform as the current model, Toyota engineers have tailored the new model cosmetically to give it a completely fresh appeal.

On the outside, it features a new design that is inspired by the latest models like the new-gen RAV4 Hybrid. The front gets an upright, muscular, and modern design with sleek LED projector headlights, a new honeycomb grille that is seamlessly integrated in the front bumper, and sharp aero dams and a big scuff plate design on the lower part of the front.

The side profile might not excite you a lot, since it looks more or less identical to the outgoing model, save for the new alloy wheels and mirrors. However, the rear now features the new vertical LED taillights, a new tailgate with Hilux lettering, and a redesigned rear bumper. The loading bay remains similar, and even the payload capacity is unaltered.

Step inside, and you are welcomed by a completely new cabin design that gives it a more “car-like” feel. The new dashboard features the new three-spoke steering wheel, a new digital instrument console, and a big floating infotainment screen with features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, electronic parking brake, electric seat adjustment, ventilated front seats, rear seats with recliner, and redesigned door panels.

Under the bonnet, it is likely to remain unchanged for the Indian market. The new-gen Hilux will continue to be offered with the current 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine. We believe that Toyota will keep offering the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options as on the current model. The possible addition could be a 48V mild-hybrid motor that was also introduced on the new Fortuner recently.

With that said, the new Hilux will be positioned higher than the current model. We believe that the range-topping version could surpass the Rs 40 lakh mark. Also, it will be interesting to see whether Toyota will continue offering the old-gen model alongside the new one, or will it discontinue it.
