What to expect from the next-gen KTM RC?

As per a latest media report, KTM is working on the next generation of the RC 390. The new model is likely to bring a major update to the popular sportsbike, as it will evolve with a bigger, twin-cylinder engine. This engine is likely to position it in the sub-500cc category, thus creating a gap between the bigger twin-cylinder platform and the upcoming 350cc platform.

Mind you, KTM, which is now owned by Bajaj Auto Ltd, has been working on a 350cc range. This engine is likely to be shared with the Triumph and Bajaj brand names as well. Bajaj decided to downsize the 399cc engine to 349cc so that it could benefit from the GST 2.0 tax rates. Therefore, the new 350cc bikes are also under construction.

Speaking of the new-gen RC 390, not many details have been revealed, but the source claims that it will feature a heavily redesigned front-end with a new projector headlight and a fascia inspired by the MotoGP motorcycle. Another interesting fact is that this new twin-cylinder engine will not be the same as the CFMoto’s 450cc engine, which KTM has been working on for the international markets.

With that said, the new-gen RC model is scheduled to debut later in 2027. We suspect that it will hit the roads only in 2028. More details regarding the new twin-cylinder engine are awaited.
