Next gen Toyota Fortuner side profile leaks online ahead of global debut

Key highlights

  • Fresh spy image reveals a sharper and more upright side profile
  • Likely to move to Toyota’s TNGA F platform with mild hybrid tech
  • India launch expected after its global reveal, possibly in 2026

A new spy image claiming to show the next generation Toyota Fortuner has surfaced online, and it gives us our clearest look yet at the SUV’s side profile. The image appears to show a test mule with minimal camouflage along the doors and rear quarter panel.

A more squared and mature silhouette

From the leaked image, the next gen Fortuner looks more upright than before. The window line appears straighter. The rear quarter glass seems slightly larger. The shoulder line runs clean and strong from the front fender to the tail lamps.

Toyota seems to have reduced visual clutter. The current Fortuner carries a few busy creases. The new one looks cleaner. It also looks wider. The wheel arches appear more pronounced. Alloy wheels on the test car look larger too, possibly 18 or 19 inches.

The roofline stays flat. That is good news for third row headroom. The rear overhang looks tighter, though final proportions will depend on the production version.

New platform, new possibilities

The next gen Fortuner is widely expected to shift to Toyota’s TNGA F architecture. This is the same ladder frame base that underpins the latest global Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the newer Toyota Hilux in select markets.

If that happens, expect better torsional rigidity and improved ride comfort. Toyota has refined this platform for both off road strength and on road composure. That matters because Fortuner buyers today expect both.

Powertrain changes are also likely. Internationally, Toyota has started pairing its 2.8 litre diesel engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. The same setup could make its way to the Fortuner. That would improve fuel efficiency and low speed smoothness. India will almost certainly continue with diesel. A strong hybrid petrol seems unlikely for our market at this point.

What this means for India

In India, the Fortuner enjoys near cult status. It competes with SUVs like the MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian, but its brand pull sits on a different level. Buyers choose it for reliability, resale value, and road presence.

A new generation model will likely command a higher price. The current Fortuner already sits north of INR 33 lakh ex showroom and stretches well beyond INR 50 lakh for top trims. With a new platform and possible hybrid tech, expect a bump.

That said, Toyota knows its audience. It will not mess with the core formula. Expect body on frame toughness, proper 4×4 hardware, and strong diesel torque.
