Norton Electra trademark filed in India, launch expected soon

Key highlights

  • Norton Motorcycles has filed a trademark for the “Electra” name in India, hinting at an imminent launch.
  • The upcoming model is expected to be a retro-modern roadster powered by a 450cc parallel-twin engine.
  • The Electra could debut at EICMA 2025, with an India launch likely in early 2026.

Norton Motorcycles, now owned by TVS Motor Company, has filed a trademark for the “Electra” name in India, signaling the brand’s serious intent to enter the domestic market. The move follows TVS’s earlier announcement of launching six new Norton motorcycles over the next three years, with the Electra likely to be the first of the lot.

A Nod to the past, built for the present

The “Electra” name isn’t new to Norton. It originally appeared in the 1960s on a 383cc parallel-twin roadster, known for its silver paint and bar-end indicators. The new Electra is expected to revive this legacy, blending classic British styling with modern engineering.

Design cues may include:

  • Chrome-laden bodywork with a long, single-piece seat.
  • Cross-spoked wheels, possibly tubeless.
  • Bar-end indicators and twin-pod analogue instrumentation.

Expect a neo-retro aesthetic that appeals to both purists and new-age riders.

Powertrain and platform

The upcoming Electra will likely be built on the 450cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin platform developed by TVS, which also underpins the BMW F 450 GS. The engine is expected to produce around 47 hp, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

While the BMW version is tuned for adventure, Norton may retune the motor for relaxed roadster dynamics, possibly adding finned casings to enhance its retro appeal.

Features and equipment

The Electra could offer a mix of old-school charm and modern tech, including:

  • Telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks.
  • Disc brakes with dual-channel ABS.
  • Optional TFT pod for navigation, alongside analogue dials.
  • LED lighting and USB charging port.

Launch timeline and rivals

The Norton Electra is expected to break cover at EICMA 2025, with an India launch in early 2026. It will compete with the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Triumph Speed 400, and BSA Gold Star 650, offering a premium alternative in the retro segment.
