Renault Duster Hybrid sold out – An instant hit?
Renault India announced that all units of the Duster Hybrid have sold out for the first batch. The brand has initiated the pre-bookings of the new-gen Duster in the previous month, and the prices of the turbo variants were announced yesterday. The turbo variants of the Duster are positioned at Rs 10.49-18.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Speaking on the hybrid powertrains, Renault India VP, Francisco Hidalgo, confirmed that over 40% urban buyers have chosen the hybrid engine, even without knowing about its details like price and variants. The reason behind the popularity of the hybrid engine is the growing market of the HEVs in India, which includes rivals like Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder Hybrid models.
Powering the Duster Hybrid is a 1.8-litre strong hybrid engine that uses a 109 bhp petrol engine and a 20 bhp hybrid starter generator, both coupled to a 49 bhp (1.4 kWh battery-powered) motor. This setup offers 160 bhp and 172 Nm of peak power. The hybrid Duster is likely to get an FWD system and a two-step e-transmission. With that said, Renault claims that the hybrid Duster can drive up to 80% time on pure EV mode inside the city. If so, it will deliver upwards of 18 km/l of fuel efficiency within the city.
CNG is also under consideration
Renault officials also confirmed that the brand is open to developing a CNG engine option if customers demand it in the future. However, the current pre-booking reflection shows that the turbo engine options are likely to sell the most, followed by the hybrid engine. The CNG powertrain could be a retrofit, and it is likely to be sold at dealership-level, if the brand decides to sell it after receiving customer feedback.
