Rumour: Renault Triber MPV to get 1.0L Turbo engine next month

Key highlights

  • Renault Triber to get 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine
  • New engine launch expected by the end of September
  • This engine will be sourced from Kiger

Renault is soon going to launch a turbocharged petrol engine for the Triber MPV. The latter has been in dire need of a turbo engine for years, which is expected to become reality next month in the Indian market.

As per online reports and rumours, Renault will launch the HR10 turbo petrol engine sourced from the Kiger and the Nissan Magnite SUVs. This engine makes 99 bhp and 160 Nm, and it is paired with a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox, thus offering a strong performance upgrade as compared to the current 999cc naturally aspirated engine.

While Renault already had the turbo engine in its closet, the reason the brand could not offer it yet on the Triber was the CMF-A platform of the previous model. The CMF-A architecture did not allow the turbo fitment without compromising the structural rigidity and safety of the old Triber.

However, with the launch of the new Triber facelift, Renault shifted it to the Renault Group Entry Platform or REGP. This platform has been tailored to specifically fit the HR10 turbo engine on the Triber.

With the addition of a turbo petrol engine, the biggest flaw of the Triber will be removed. The Triber is already a potent MPV with a spacious interior and an aggressive price. The turbo version is likely to be priced around Rs 60,000-80,000 more than the naturally aspirated engine option.

Moreover, Renault has already confirmed that it is developing a new CNG powertrain. This factory-fitted CNG option could also come along with the new turbo engine, which will satisfy the need of power and economy altogether. If Renault is brave enough, the CNG verison could also get the CVT automatic gearbox option in the future.
