Key highlights

  • MG Hector Tomahawk EV spotted undisguised
  • India launch on August 26
  • Plug-in hybrid version likely to launch soon

The fresh spy shots circulating on the internet have revealed the undisguised production-spec MG Tomahawk EV. This new 7-seater electric SUV will be unveiled soon in India, and it will rival the Mahindra XEV 9E and the upcoming Tata Safari EV.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV: What do we know so far?

MG Hector Tomahawk EV side profile spied

The upcoming Hector Tomahawk EV was spotted recently during an official TVC shoot. Based on MG’s latest ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology), the Hector Tomahawk will be initially revealed as an EV. The latter is confirmed, as the TVC shoot car boasted green registration plates.

The Hector Tomahawk is essentially the Wuling Starlight 560, but with India-specific changes and rebranding. As visible in the spy shots, the majority of the styling has been retained from the Starlight 560, including the sharp daytime running lights, a blanked-off grille with a piano black finish and chrome highlights, dual-tone alloys, conventional door handles, roof rails, and a crossover-like side profile.

While these spy images could not cover the rear profile, we can safely say that it will feature sleek LED taillights, as the brand has teased earlier. Moreover, the spotted model was draped in a dual-tone exterior colour with a black roof and mirrors. The dual-tone options are likely to be offered alongside the single-tone colours.

Hector Tomahawk EV specifications and range

We believe that the interior of the Hector Tomahawk will also be more or less the same as the Starlight 560. The only expected changes are likely to be the new interior theme, MG branding, and probably more wireless smart connected features. Other features like the 12.8-inch infotainment screen, 8.8-inch digital driver console, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, etc, will be carried over from the Starlight 560.

Powering the Hector Tomahawk EV is likely to be a 69.2 kWh LFP battery pack. This version has a CLTC-claimed range of 530 km in China. In terms of specs, it develops 201 bhp and 310 Nm, and has a top speed of up to 160 km/h. Moreover, it also supports DC charging that takes 20 minutes to charge from 30-80%.

Plug-in hybrid coming soon

It is widely believed that MG will also introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the Hector Tomahawk by late 2026. This version is likely to offer a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. This version will offer around 194-197 bhp and a pure electric range of around 100-125 km.

India launch price

The new Hector Tomahawk EV is scheduled to launch in India on August 26, 2026. Since it will compete with the Mahindra XEV 9E, we believe that it will be positioned around Rs 18-25 lakh.
