Tata Avinya EV spied for the first time, launch scheduled next year?

Key highlights

  • Tata Avinya EV spied for the first time
  • To be based on the Chery-JLR Freelander platform
  • World debut is expected next year

Tata Motors has been repeatedly showcasing the concept models of the Avinya EV for the past few years. Back in 2025, Tata showcased the almost production-ready Avinya EV, which was hyped a lot by the crowd, and it attracted a lot of eyeballs as well.

What to expect from the Tata Avinya EV?

However, the brand’s plan to use the Range Rover’s EMA platform was tarnished when Range Rover dropped its idea of producing its upcoming EVs at Tata’s plant in Andhra Pradesh. Tata then ran to Chery-JLR, which eventually gave its Freelander platform.

The camouflaged test car that you see here is likely equipped with the Freelander platform, and it appears to be bigger in size. Although an SUV, the Avinya’s body style looks more like an estate with a long wheelbase. The overall footprint of the test car suggests that the production-spec will stand out in terms of styling.

Tata’s aim is to place the Avinya EV as a global EV product range. Moreover, the Avinya EV will not be a pocket-friendly car, as Tata wants it to stand against the premium rivals like the Range Rover. This is true as the test mule has premium visible cues like retractable door handles, a streamlined design, multi-spoke alloy wheels with low-profile tyres, vertically stacked LED headlights, and horizontal LED taillights with a twin-stripe design.

Since the Avinya EV is likely to be based on the Freelander’s platform, we suspect that it will be equipped with a battery pack of around 80-100 kWh. If so, it could offer sports car-like performance and a range upwards of 700 km.

Tata has already cleared the air around the Avinya EV’s launch. Earlier, it was expected to be unveiled by late 2026, but now it is delayed till 2027. Upon launch, it could be priced around Rs 50-60 lakh.
