Tesla recently revealed the first prototype of its upcoming miracle of a car, the Roadster. The ‘miracle’ is that it can fly, quite literally! The brand revealed the Roadster will get the SpaceX rocket-inspired reverse thrusters that can actually help it fly.
With the reveal, Tesla commenced pre-bookings for the Roadster worldwide, including India. Interestingly, the ‘Reverse Thrust’ variant has been priced at Rs 2.5 crore only for the pre-reservation. This variant does not offer the flying car option; rather, it offers thrusters for a rocket-like acceleration.
While the brand has not revealed a lot about the Roadster, its pre-bookings are now open in India from Rs 50 lakh for the standard variant, out of which Rs 5.01 lakh needs to be paid immediately, while the remaining amount can be paid within the next 10 days. Production is set for 2028, and it will only be manufactured with a left-hand drive configuration.
Meanwhile, Tesla states that the Rs 5.01 lakh pre-reservation charge is fully refundable. Interestingly, only one order per customer is allowed, as Tesla has mentioned that a handful of units of the Roadster will be manufactured.
The Standard and Reverse Thrust variants will offer two seats, while the Rocket variant will get only one seat. The Rocket variant is the one that was shown at the recent reveal, and it will get the flying car equipment, too, only for select customers and markets. It will be sold exclusively via an invite-only option.
While little is known about the Roadster, Tesla did reveal that the Standard variant will be able to do 0-96 km/h in 1.6 seconds, while the Reverse Thrust variant will be able to do it in 0.9 seconds. The Rocket variant will be able to sprint 0-96 km/h in just 0.59 second. The latter will get perimeter-mounted cold gas thrusters and it will be able to fly, rotate, and reach up to 370 km/h of top speed.
