Triumph Tracker 400: Everything you should know

Based on the Speed 400’s platform, the new Tracker 400 has been curated for buyers who love the old-school flat-track race motorcycles. While it shares its underpinnings with the other 400cc siblings, the Tracker 400 gets a redesigned styling with the stubby tail, a flat seat, a sculpted fuel tank with knee recesses, and the flat side panels with numbering.

Moreover, its riding position has been redesigned to give the rider a proper flat-track racing bike feel. The handlebar has been set upright, and the footpegs have been positioned towards the rear. Meanwhile, the exhaust has been carried from the Scrambler 400X, which matches its dual-tone colour theme and the powder-coated mechanical parts.

The Tracker 400 is suspended on the upside-down front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock, while the bike rides on the 17-inch alloy wheels, a similar setup that we see on the Scrambler 400X.

Powering the Tracker 400 is the tried and tested 398.51cc liquid-cooled engine, but it makes more power than the Speed 400. It is rated for 41.4 bhp and 37.5 Nm of peak power and torque, while being paired to a slick 6-speed transmission that gets the slipper clutch as well.

Interestingly, it will be made in India but exported to the UK, while not being launched in India itself. Why? It is because the brand plans to detune the 400cc platform to 350cc in India next year. All thanks to the new GST tax structure, the Indian product portfolio of Triumph India will differ from its international portfolio.
