What to expect from the JSW-Chery Jaecoo J5?
The recently spotted Jaecoo J5 test mule is not new, as the brand has been testing this BEV version for a long time. Jaecoo is a sub-brand of Chery Automobiles, which has collaborated with the upcoming JSW Motors. Hence, JSW will bring a host of Chery cars like Jetour T2, iCar V23, and Jaecoo J5 in the coming months.
Speaking of the details, the J5 is a popular mid-size SUV in the global market, especially in China. It looks like a mini-Range Rover and has a streamlined exterior design with sharp LED lights and a boxy design. Elements like a closed front grille, active air dams, functional roof rails, retractable door handles, and aerodynamic 18-inch wheels give it a modern appeal.
The cabin layout of the J5 is inspired by a minimalist approach. It packs a clean design with a spacious seating arrangement and comfortable ergonomics. There are ample storage holders inside, and the J5 comes with features like a full-size panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch vertically placed infotainment screen, 64-bit ambient lighting, and wireless charging.
Powering the J5 is a 61 kWh battery pack that offers 207 bhp and 280 Nm. It is rated for 461 km of range as per the CLTC cycle, and it can sprint 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
JSW Motors is likely to launch these rebranded Chery cars by the end of this year. The J5 could be positioned in the same ballpark as the Mahindra BE 6.
