Yamaha R2 breaks cover in India with 26.5bhp – Rs 2.30 lakh price

Yamaha has finally broken the ice. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has launched a new product after a long gap. The new bike is called the R2, and it is positioned above the entry-level R15 and the R3. Priced at Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom), the new R2 packs a lot more punch than rivals like the KTM RC 200.

The new R2 features identical styling to the R15. However, a closer look reveals its new fascia, which gets split daytime running lights with a sleek design, and a projector LED headlamp in the middle of the fascia. Moreover, the raised tail section features the same LED taillight as the R15.

The R2 sticks to the ‘R’ nameplate key details, and it offers a committed riding posture with a clip-on handlebar and rear-set rider footpegs. The split seat setup further adds to its proper sportsbike appeal.

Moving on, the biggest update is the new 204cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This engine generates 26.5 bhp and 19.3 Nm of power and torque. This makes it the most powerful 200cc sports bike in India right now. Meanwhile, the brand claims to have made a whole new chassis from scratch for the R2. Although it is not a Deltabox frame, this one is supposed to be even better.

Moving on, depending on the variants, you can opt for features like the adjustable front USD suspension, keyless ignition, a 5-inch TFT screen, a bi-directional quickshifter, preload-adjustable rear suspension, adjustable brake and clutch levers, a faux-suede seat, and more.

The R2 is available in three variants, with the base version priced at Rs 2.30 lakh and the R2 M being the range-topping version, priced at Rs 2.53 lakh (ex-showroom). Yamaha will sell the R2 through its Bluq Square showrooms pan-India. The bike is now available, as bookings have commenced nationwide.
