Yamaha XSR155 is finally here, launched at INR 1.49 lakh

Key highlights

  • Yamaha launches the long-awaited XSR155 in India at INR 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
  • Powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled VVA engine with assist and slipper clutch.
  • Offered in four colours and two accessory packs, Cafe Racer and Scrambler.

It’s finally official. After what felt like an eternity of waiting (and countless spy shots), Yamaha has launched the XSR155 in India, priced at INR 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This retro-styled motorcycle sits in Yamaha’s “Sport Heritage” lineup and is designed for riders who want that old-school charm without sacrificing modern performance.

The XSR155 brings the global XSR DNA to India. A clean blend of timeless design and everyday usability. Think of it as a machine that looks vintage but behaves like a well-trained athlete.

Design and Styling

The XSR155 is a proper modern-retro. It wears a round LED headlamp and taillamp, a teardrop fuel tank, and a minimalist tail section that screams classic, but with a neat, purposeful edge. The circular LCD instrument cluster adds to the old-school vibe while offering all the modern readouts you’d expect like speed, gear position, trip data, and more.

Yamaha has kept things balanced: premium where it matters and simple where it counts. The bike sits on 17-inch wheels wrapped in street-focused tyres and features a well-balanced frame for agile handling.

You can also dress it up your way. Yamaha is offering two accessory packages, Scrambler and Cafe Racer for those who want to tweak the looks to match their personality. Colour options include Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue.

Engine and Performance

Under the classic skin lies the same heart that powers the R15 and MT-15, a 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). It produces 18.4 PS and 14.2 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring assist and slipper clutch.

That means you get the same smooth power delivery, quick shifts, and a healthy mid-range punch that makes Yamaha’s 155cc platform such a delight. The Deltabox frame and aluminium swingarm ensure sharp handling, while the upside-down front forks and linked-type monoshock deliver a composed ride whether you’re darting through traffic or taking the long route home.

Yamaha has also equipped the bike with dual-channel ABS and traction control, a first for this platform in India, adding a layer of safety to the fun.

Price and Market Position

At INR 1.49 lakh, the XSR155 sits between the MT-15 and R15, offering a third, more lifestyle-oriented choice in Yamaha’s 155cc lineup. It rivals bikes like the TVS Ronin, Bajaj Pulsar N150, and Hero Mavrick 440 (lower variants) but with the typical Yamaha polish and a design that oozes character.
