Yamaha has officially taken the electric plunge. The AEROX-E, Yamaha’s first-ever electric scooter, marks the brand’s entry into the high-performance EV space and extends the legacy of the Aerox 155, which redefined what a scooter could be.
The AEROX-E carries the DNA of Yamaha’s globally acclaimed Maxi Sports lineup but swaps out the petrol motor for electrons and torque-rich silence.
Performance
At the heart of the AEROX-E lies a 12.8 PS peak power electric motor that churns out 48 Nm of torque—numbers that make it clear this scooter isn’t here to dawdle in traffic. Power comes from dual detachable 3 kWh lithium-ion batteries, using high-energy cells designed for consistent performance and efficient power delivery.
Yamaha claims a certified range of 106 km, which should comfortably cover a week’s worth of city commuting for most riders. The dual-battery setup is removable and features ergonomic grips, making home charging easier than brewing a cup of coffee.
There’s more, riders get Eco, Standard, and Power modes, plus a cheeky ‘Boost’ function that unleashes maximum torque for instant bursts of acceleration. There’s a reverse mode too for effortless parking.
Design
The AEROX-E carries that familiar sporty stance from the Aerox 155, wide bodywork, sleek contours, and aggressive proportions but with sharper, EV-inspired detailing.
Up front, twin Class-D LED headlights and LED flashers set the tone, while a 3D-effect LED taillight adds drama at the rear. The scooter also gets a large full-colour TFT display with turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth connectivity via Y-Connect, and features like maintenance reminders and last parked location tracking.
The design isn’t just about flash, though. The ergonomics have been fine-tuned to deliver a sporty yet comfortable riding posture, ideal for city dashes and weekend detours alike.
Ride and Handling
The AEROX-E isn’t just powerful; it’s built to handle that power responsibly. Yamaha has equipped it with front and rear disc brakes, aided by single-channel ABS for safety. Suspension tuning and geometry have been refined to balance agility with comfort, while the battery placement ensures low centre of gravity for stable handling.
A smart key system and external charging port add to its convenience, reinforcing Yamaha’s intent to blend performance with practicality.
