- 2026 Kia Sorento Indian-spec model to get AWD
- It is likely to be offered with ICE and hybrid powertrains
- Expected to be priced around Rs 40-45 lakh
Kia India is all set to introduce its latest flagship model, which will be the Sorento SUV. It will be a three-row full-size SUV that will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and MG Majestor. The brand has now confirmed that the Indian-spec model will feature an all-wheel-drive configuration.
We had previously speculated on the AWD, and now Kia has confirmed it. The AWD configuration is a basic necessity in this segment, where all the rivals of the Sorento feature AWD or 4WD in some form or another.
What to expect from the 2026 Kia Sorento?
The Indian-spec Sorento will be revealed on September 4, 2026. It features a three-row seating configuration, and the previous spy shots have revealed that it will be a premium offering.
The visual appeal of the Sorento is likely to be strong, as it is expected to feature the ‘Tiger Nose’ design with a big front grille, vertical LED headlights, chiselled body panels, sculpted bumpers, and dual-tone alloys. The design elements like flush door handles and split LED taillights will definitely make it stand out from the crowd.
Not long ago, the interior details of the Indian-spec model were leaked through spy shots. That specific test mule had a dual-tone cabin theme with a tan and black colour scheme. Moreover, it packed leather upholstery, soft-touch materials, and piano black panels.
Since the Sorento is made for family comfort and highway cruising, it will feature a big greenhouse, spacious seats, and features like reclining rear seats with ventilation, a curved connected Trinity display, a rotary dial gearshift, Level 2 ADAS, LED cabin ambient lighting, an electronic tailgate with gesture control, a full-size panoramic sunroof, and more.
Powering the Indian-spec model could be two different engine options. The first will be a 2.0-litre turbo petrol mated to an 8-speed AT gearbox. We suspect that this specific powertrain will feature AWD. Meanwhile, a 1.6-litre hybrid engine is also likely to be offered. This version is most likely to be front-wheel drive.
Kia will sell the Sorento as a CKD. This means it will be priced competitively. We assume its debut price will be around Rs 40-45 lakh. More details will follow as we approach its launch timeline.
