Maruti Grand Vitara is a super hit: What makes it popular?
As per the latest sales report released by Maruti Suzuki, its Grand Vitara mid-size SUV has become the fastest-selling SUV in India. Within 32 months of the launch, the SUV has surpassed the 3 lakh sales milestone.
Launched back in September 2022, the Grand Vitara is based on the Heatect platform, which is also shared with the Brezza. It is offered in multiple powertrain options, which make it an optimal buy in the segment.
While the Grand Vitara is yet to beat its main rival, which is the Hyundai Creta, its sales figures keep growing continuously. In fact, its Strong Hybrid variants have accounted for 43% Y-o-Y growth, which is outstanding considering the pricing of these models.
Mind you, the Grand Vitara is available with a 1.5-litre K15C petrol, a 1.5-litre CNG, and a 1.5-litre Strong Hybrid engine options. While the petrol and CNG variants can be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox, there is also an option to choose a 6-speed AT for the petrol.
Meanwhile, the Strong Hybrid is only available with an e-CVT transmission. There is also an option of an AWD variant, which can be had with a 6-speed AT transmission, making the Grand Vitara the only model, after its sibling Toyota Hyryder, in its segment with an AWD.
Maruti has recently updated the Grand Vitara for 2025 with the addition of new variants and new features, such as electric driver’s seat adjustment, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, rear sunshades, and more.
Our verdict
The aggressive pricing and multiple engine options of the Grand Vitara have played a crucial role in its success. Moreover, the SUV offers ample space and a cushioning ride quality, which cumulatively make it comfortable and plush.
