Maruti Suzuki has announced yet another milestone. This time, the Dzire compact sedan has achieved the 35 lakh-unit production mark. With this new milestone, the Dzire has become Maruti’s fourth model, after the Alto, Wagon R, and Swift hatchbacks, to achieve this production milestone.
First launched in 2008, the Dzire has been a consistent performer for Maruti Suzuki. While the first-gen model was longer than 4m, the new rules led to a reduction in its size with the second-generation model. Dzire was initially launched as an extended-boot version of the Swift, but over the years it has garnered its own fanbase for being an affordable and efficient compact sedan.
One of the key selling points for the Dzire was its 1.3-litre DDIS turbocharged diesel engine, which made it immensely popular among private and commercial customers. Later, the diesel engine was axed from Maruti’s entire lineup in 2020, and ever since, the Dzire has been offered with petrol and CNG engine options.
In 2024, Maruti introduced the current-generation Dzire, which departed entirely from its resemblance to the Swift in terms of looks. The current Dzire was launched in November 2024 with an all-new 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated Z12E petrol engine and a CNG engine. It is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The Dzire also remains to be one of the top 5 exported models by Suzuki as per the previous fiscal year’s data released by the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers. As per online reports, Maruti is working on a hybrid version of the Dzire, which is expected to be introduced by 2028.
