Spy shots from Europe confirm that KTM is testing a heavily updated version of the Duke 790, pointing clearly to a 2026 model year update. The test bike was spotted on public roads with camouflage, but there is enough visible to tell that KTM is not just doing a routine emissions tweak.
What to expect
The overall silhouette remains familiar. This is still very much a Duke. Sharp tank extensions, aggressive stance, and compact proportions stay intact. That said, the details tell a different story. The headlamp unit looks revised. The DRL signature appears slightly altered, hinting at a refreshed LED setup. KTM rarely changes things without reason, so expect both style and function upgrades here.
The subframe area also looks reworked. The rear section appears cleaner and more compact, which could mean a lighter assembly or a revised seat design. KTM might be chasing better ergonomics for both rider and pillion. Comfort has never been the Duke 790’s strongest suit, and KTM knows it.
Same engine?
One of the biggest talking points is the engine. The 799cc parallel twin continues, but it is almost certain to receive internal updates to meet stricter Euro norms. Euro 5 Plus compliance is likely. Expect tweaks to the exhaust system and engine mapping. Power figures may remain similar, but throttle response and refinement should improve. KTM usually protects performance first and adjusts everything else around it.
New electronics
Electronics could see a meaningful upgrade. The current Duke 790 already offers ride modes, traction control, and cornering ABS in some markets. The test mule hints at updated sensors and wiring. This suggests a revised electronics suite, possibly with improved IMU based aids. A new TFT interface could also be on the cards. KTM has been upgrading displays across its lineup, and the Duke 790 should not feel left behind.
The India factor
Now comes the big question. What does this mean for India? The Duke 790 had a complicated journey here. Pricing and positioning were always tricky. However, with KTM streamlining its global range and focusing on premium middleweights, a refreshed Duke 790 could make sense again. Especially if KTM localises parts or assembles it smartly.
