1.5 TSI MT axed, Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun variants revised
The first month of 2026 has brought an interesting change for VW lovers in India. The German carmaker has silently axed the manual variants of the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine-equipped Virtus and Taigun models. While the reason behind this decision is yet to be known, both models are now only available with an automatic gearbox.
Speaking of the details, the 1.5 TSI manual gearbox variants offered frugal pricing. Buyers who wanted more performance, but had a budget constraint, preferred the MT variants as these were aggressively priced. For reference, the Virtus 1.5 TSI MT was priced at Rs 17.09 lakh, while the Taigun 1.5 TSI MT was priced at Rs 17.04 lakh (ex-showroom).
Now, with their discontinuation, the 1.5 TSI engine is available only with the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission option. Therefore, the starting price has automatically increased. The Virtus 1.5 TSI DSG is now available at Rs 18.80-19 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Taigun 1.5 TSI DSG is available at Rs 18.95-19.19 lakh (ex-showroom).
