Kia Sonet crosses 5 lakh sales milestone

Key highlights

  • Kia Sonet crosses the 5 lakh sales mark in India in just over five years
  • The Sonet now accounts for nearly 35 percent of Kia’s domestic volumes
  • Over 1 lakh units exported to almost 70 global markets

The Kia Sonet has crossed 5 lakh sales in the Indian market. Launched in 2020, the Sonet arrived at the right time with the right mix. Sharp design, strong feature list, multiple engine and gearbox options. And a price tag that did not scare away first-time buyers. Since then, it has quietly become one of Kia’s most important models in India.

A volume driver that carries the brand

The Sonet now contributes close to 35 percent of Kia India’s domestic sales. That makes it a core pillar of the brand’s business in the country.

It also shows how well Kia read the Indian market. The Sonet offers petrol and diesel engines. It comes with manual, automatic, and iMT options. Buyers can choose from a wide range of trims. There is something for the mileage hunter. There is something for the feature junkie. And there is something for the buyer who just wants a tough-looking compact SUV.

Made in India, sold to the world

Kia has shipped over 1 lakh Sonets to nearly 70 markets. These include regions like the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Mexico, and parts of Asia Pacific. That export number adds serious credibility to the Sonet’s build quality and market appeal.

It also reinforces Kia’s Make in India for the world strategy. The Sonet is built at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh. The same factory supplies both Indian buyers and overseas customers.

What made the Sonet click

The Sonet brought a bold design to the segment. It packed in features that rivals took time to match. It offered connected tech early. It did not shy away from premium touches in higher trims. And it gave buyers diesel power even when many brands were walking away from it.

Urban buyers loved its size and features. Buyers in smaller towns liked its road presence and value. First-time owners found it easy to live with. Families found it practical enough for daily duty.
