Tata Motors has announced that it has delivered over 10,000 Sierra SUVs since launch. The new Tata mid-size SUV competes in the most throat-cutting segment that includes the Hyundai Creta – India’s top-selling car.

Why is the Tata Sierra popular?

Tata reintroduced the Sierra nameplate in November 2025. The return of the iconic name was celebrated with the new SUV that brought a modern design, luxurious cabin, and powerful engine options while offering the design cues of the old Sierra.

Tata’s marketing and promotion helped Sierra gain a lot of pre-bookings. In fact, the Sierra became an instant hit as it gathered 70,000 bookings within the first day of price announcement. By the end of February 2026, the pre-bookings have crossed 1 lakh, and Tata is now forced to ramp up production.

The main reason behind the popularity of the Sierra SUV is its unique design and aggressive price tag. While retaining its SUV portfolio and butch looks, it offers more space and better features than the rivals like the Hyundai Creta.

Additionally, it is available in three engine options that include the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol with a 6-speed manual, a 1.5-litre TGDI turbo petrol with a 7-speed wet clutch DCT automatic, and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

With that said, the waiting list of the Sierra is still long as new buyers keep queuing to get their hands on this new SUV.
