Renault Bigster: Everything we know so far

Spotted recently around Chennai, the upcoming Bigster SUV is a 7-seater version based on the new-gen Duster. It is likely to be based on the same CMF-B platform, while undergoing tailoring for the extra seats.

The black camouflaged test car appears to have an identical design to the new-gen Duster. The front fascia uses the sharp LED headlamps, while the bumper seems to be redesigned with a bigger lower grille and a silver skid plate.

The side profile has a rugged outlook with slightly flared wheel arches, an elongated rear quarter panel with a bigger window, and big multi-spoke sporty alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear profile is also identical to the new Duster as it gets a sporty roof-integrated spoiler and a set of connected LED taillights.

On the inside, Bigster is likely to offer more space and a 5+2 seating layout, which will place it against the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and the Hyundai Alcazar. In terms of features, we suspect it to get a driver-centric dashboard, electric seats, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, and ADAS safety features.

Powering the Bigster SUV are likely to be two engine options: a 1.3L turbo petrol making 160 bhp and 280 Nm paired to a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT automatic transmission, while a 1.8L HEV (hybrid) engine is likely to be offered in a later stage.

As of now, Renault India is preparing to announce the prices of the Duster. Even the 1.8L hybrid engine is slated to debut later this year on the Duster. Hence, we can safely assume that the Bigster 7-seater SUV will launch in India next year, and it could be priced around Rs 13-22 lakh.
