The Mahindra BE6 Batman Edition was a one of a kind collaboration for the Indian automotive industry. However, some customers who bought the first batch of the Batman Edition were unhappy that Mahindra release another batch for sale. Mahindra is now offering a 100% buyback for the ones who would like to return the car.
Why are customers unhappy?
The BE6 Batman Edition was launched in a limited quantity. Mahindra announced that only 999 units would be sold. This meant that there would be only 999 people in the entire country owning this car. That is exclusive in 1.3 billion population. The car also demanded a premium of INR 89,000 more over the top-spec pack three variant. People who invested in the first batch bought in to the fact that they were getting something exclusive which will never be replicated again.
A couple of days earlier, Mahindra announced a second batch of the BE6 Batman Edition again limited to 999 units. This would mean that there will be 1998 Batman Edtions on the Indian roads. The first batch owners were unhappy with this move as it made their purchase a little less exclusive. To be fair, Mahindra is charging INR 70,000 more over the price of the first batch. However, for some enthusiasts exclusivity is more valuable than money.
Mahindra’s response
In a surprising move, Mahindra decided to refund the full purchase amount to the first batch owners. The owners will have to register their wish to sell the car back at a Mahindra dealership and after checks, the refund will be initiated.
Was it wrong of Mahindra to introduce another set of the Batman Edition? Are the customers right to ask for a full refund. Well, these are debatable. The fact of the matter is that the Batman Edition of the Mahindra BE6 has gained a lot of popularity. It being sold out in minutes even after a price hike tells us that there is a lot of demand for unique limited edition cars.
