What makes the Toyota hybrid cars popular in India?
The latest press release shared by Toyota celebrates the brand’s success in achieving 3 lakh sales of the smart hybrid cars in the Indian market. The consistently growing sales of the hybrid cars are contributed to by models like the Innova Hycross, Fortuner Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, and Vellfire.
The SHEV, aka self-charging electric vehicles, are becoming popular in India due to the growing acceptance of the new technology and the consistently rising fuel prices. While the latter is something that the brand can not control, its SHEV cars offer high fuel economy without compromising on the performance aspect.
The self-charging hybrid technology works on Atkinson’s principle, where the car’s engine charges the battery by using the engine resistance, braking regeneration energy, and coasting of the car. All of these cumulatively add to the battery charging, which then propels the car by the electric motor. The latter keeps switching between petrol power and EV, depending on the requirement.
With that said, Toyota has sold 38 million smart electrified vehicles globally, which have saved 197 million tons of carbon emissions, thus proving the essence of the hybrid vehicles.
