Design, platform, and dimensions

Skoda Epiq unveiled: Entry-level EV with 440 km range

The Epiq EV is based on Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, which is an 800V architecture, and it is also used by the ID.Cross EV. It is not only the most affordable, but also the first-ever all-electric car of the brand.

In terms of size, it measures 4,171 mm in length, 1,798 mm in width, 1,581 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,601 mm, thus offering a spacious cabin for five passengers. Skoda has used the new ‘Tech-Desk Face’ design on it, which incorporates the T-shaped LED lights on both ends, a sleek grille with Skoda lettering on the bonnet, and a large lower grille for air flow.

While the Epiq EV looks like a conventional SUV, it surprisingly has one of the lowest drag coefficients of 0.275 Cd among all of the electric cars worldwide. This places it in the category of Mercedes-Benz EQ models, which is definitely inspiring for people who appreciate performance and efficiency.

Other key highlights include the aerodynamic alloy wheels that range 17 to 19 inches, depending on the variants. It is also a practical family crossover, offering up to 475 litres of boot space and a 25-litre front trunk, or frunk.

Interior design and features

The cabin design is equipped with a spacious layout with comfortable ergonomics and ample storage spaces. It gets a two-spoke steering wheel with Skoda lettering at the bottom, a floating 13-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, electric front seats with ventilation and heating options, an electric tailgate, and other comfort-oriented features.

On the tech front, the Epiq is loaded with a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, voice commands, dual-zone AC, electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS safety suite, and a 10-speaker Canton sound system.

Battery specs, range, and charging

Since it shares its underpinnings with the ID.Cross, the battery options and specifications are identical to the VW twin. It comes with two battery options: 38.5 kWh and 55 kWh.

The 38.5 kWh battery pack is further available in two variants: 35 and 40. The 35 variant offers 114 bhp, while the 40 variant offers 133 bhp. Both variants get the same torque of 267 Nm. The 38.5 kWh battery can deliver up to 310 km of claimed range.

Meanwhile, the more powerful 55 kWh battery pack offers 208 bhp and 290 Nm. It can deliver up to 440 km. Both battery packs are compatible with DC charging, which can juice them 10-80% in 24 minutes.

Will it launch in India?

As of now, Skoda has not announced any plans to bring the Epiq to the Indian shores. However, the rapidly growing EV market trend in India might push Skoda to launch the Epiq soon.
