The New Hyundai i20 is looking like a completely different car

Key Highlights

  • Hyundai has released a second teaser of the fourth-generation i20, revealing front and rear connected LED lighting.
  • Global debut is expected in July 2026, possibly timed with the FIFA World Cup.
  • India launch is expected in late 2026 or early 2027.

Hyundai has released its second teaser of the next-generation i20, and this one reveals significantly more than the first. The global debut is a month away.

Major Changes

The biggest change is the lighting. Hyundai has confirmed a full-width LED light bar stretching across the front fascia, linking the lighting elements on either side. Arrowhead-shaped LED headlamps and Y-shaped LED DRLs are connected by this light bar. Below them sit rectangular projector headlamp units in a separate lower cluster. The result is a face that looks dramatically wider and more futuristic than the current model.

At the rear, a connected LED light bar is paired with boomerang-like lighting elements at the outer edges, emphasising width and visual presence.

A Boxier, More Upright Stance

The days of the rounded, bubbly i20 are over. The new i20 adopts a more upright and angular silhouette. The greenhouse appears squarer, while the window line and roof profile have been redesigned with sharper creases. It looks taller and more muscular than the outgoing car.

This shift mirrors what Hyundai has done globally with the Venue and Creta facelifts. The brand is moving toward a more assertive, angular design language, and the i20 is following suit.

What to Expect Inside and Under the Hood

The new i20 is expected to feature a brand-new interior with a curved display incorporating dual screens. A 360-degree camera and ADAS could also be offered.

For India, the powertrain is expected to stay familiar. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engines are likely to be carried forward. Global markets may get a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol with mild-hybrid tech.

FIFA World Cup Timing

The new i20 is expected to make its first public appearance at the FIFA World Cup in June. The tournament begins at Mexico City Stadium on June 11 and concludes in New York on July 19. Hyundai is the official automotive partner of the World Cup, which makes the timing very deliberate.

India launch is expected in late 2026 or early 2027. More details at the global debut.
