Key Highlights
- Maruti Suzuki’s previously announced price hike came into effect on June 14, 2026.
- The eVitara saw the steepest increase at Rs 30,000, the highest across the lineup.
- The Wagon R and Eeco saw the smallest hike, up to Rs 5,000.Â
We knew this was coming. Maruti Suzuki announced in May that prices would rise by up to Rs 30,000 in June. The hike came into effect on June 14, 2026. And the eVitara, Maruti’s flagship EV, has taken the steepest increase of the entire lineup at Rs 30,000.
Who pays more, and by how much
Not every model is affected equally. The Wagon R and Eeco see the smallest increase, capped at just Rs 5,000. The eVitara sits at the other end, with the full Rs 30,000 hike applied. Maruti has not released a complete model-by-model breakup, but the pattern suggests pricier, higher-margin models are absorbing more of the increase than entry-level cars.
That makes sense from a business standpoint. Protecting affordability at the bottom of the range, where competition is fiercest and first-time buyers are most price-sensitive, while passing on more of the cost burden at the premium end.
Why this is happening
Maruti has been resisting a price hike for months. The company even skipped a planned increase in January 2026, citing strong demand for its small cars and a desire to protect first-time buyers. That restraint has clearly run its course.
Maruti said the hike reflects a steady rise in input costs and sustained inflationary pressure. The company stated it had been absorbing these costs internally through efficiency measures, but the burden has now become too large to fully absorb without passing some of it on.
Maruti is not the only one
This is not an isolated move. Hyundai hiked prices in May. MG and Tata Motors did the same in April. Kia has also raised prices in recent months. BYD has confirmed a further hike of up to 2 percent coming in July.
Across the industry, the message is consistent: costs are rising, and manufacturers can no longer fully shield buyers from it.
If you have been holding off on booking a new Maruti, especially the eVitara, that delay just got Rs 30,000 more expensive. Worth keeping in mind before your next showroom visit.
