Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the all-new GLB EV will be launched in India, further strengthening its growing electric vehicle portfolio.
The announcement was made by Mercedes-Benz India MD & CEO Santosh Iyer during the company’s half-yearly sales briefing. While a launch timeline is yet to be announced, the compact luxury electric SUV will eventually join models such as the EQA, EQS SUV and EQS sedan in the brand’s EV lineup.
Built on Mercedes’ new EV platform
The new GLB EV is underpinned by Mercedes-Benz’s Modular Architecture (MMA), the company’s latest platform developed for compact electric vehicles.
Although it shares its overall silhouette with the petrol-powered GLB, the electric version gets several EV-specific styling elements.
Some of the exterior highlights include:
- Closed-off grille with illuminated Mercedes stars
- Connected LED light bars at the front and rear
- Flush-fitting door handles
- Squared wheel arches
- Short front and rear overhangs
Like its ICE sibling, the GLB EV will be available with five- and seven-seat configurations in global markets.
Two powertrain options available globally
Internationally, the GLB EV is sold in two versions.

Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed which version will be offered in India.
Our Thoughts
Its biggest advantage could be practicality. Unlike many luxury EVs that are strictly five-seaters, the GLB EV offers the flexibility of a seven-seat layout, making it a compelling option for buyers looking for an electric family SUV. Add to that a claimed range of over 600 km, ultra-fast charging and Mercedes’ latest technology, and the GLB EV has the potential to stand out when it arrives in India.
