2027 Kawasaki Ninja H2 to produce 43 bhp less than the current model

Key highlights

  • 2027 Kawasaki Ninja H2 engine specifications leaked
  • To produce 43 bhp less than the current model
  • Reported to use the same exhaust as the Z H2 SE

The latest emission filings with the US Environmental Protection Agency, aka the EPA, have revealed that the next-generation Kawasaki Ninja H2 motorcycle will produce similar power to the Z H2 SE naked sports bike. This means that the next-gen H2 will be 43 bhp less powerful than the current model.

However, before you jump to any conclusion, there is more to it. Another filing with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reveals that the new-gen H2 will use the same exhaust design as the Z H2 SE. Now this is most probably done to meet the strengthening emission norms, and the filing reveals that it will feature a secondary catalytic converter.

With that said, the Z H2 SE uses the same 998cc inline-four supercharged engine as the H2, but it makes 194 bhp as opposed to the 240 bhp of the H2. We also suspect that Kawasaki might introduce a more “user-friendly” version of the H2, which might use the same powertrain as the Z H2 SE, while a new, more aggressive H2 variant is also introduced for serious riding. Not that we say 194 bhp is less, but considering the 43 bhp drop, a more powerful H2 is definitely needed.

On the other hand, Kawasaki homologated the new-gen H2 in Australia as well. Those documents revealed that the brand has used a new set of model codes, which is interesting as this could mean that the new-generation model will not only get a retuned engine, but it is likely to undergo a massive technical change.

Meanwhile, the track-specific H2R will also be revamped along with the new-gen model. However, it will not get the emission-related changes as it is not a road-legal motorcycle. Therefore, the new technical updates could bring more power to the H2R variant.

As of now, there is no fixed timeline for the launch of the new H2, but we suspect that the EICMA 2026 in November could witness the reveal of the new-gen model. However, it won’t be available in the global market before 2027.
