Mercedes-AMG E 53 PHEV: Everything to know
Engine specs and performance
The new E 53 4MATIC+ Hybrid will make a comeback in the Indian market later this year. However, this time the hybrid sports sedan will offer more performance and driving appeal with its new 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which is paired to a 21.2 kWh battery pack, cumulatively offering 585 bhp and 750 Nm.
The E 53 PHEV will get Mercedes’ trademark 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive technology and a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, it will also get an optional “AMG Dynamic Plus Package”, which will offer 612 bhp of power, 280 km/h of top speed, and 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, placing it in the supercar territory.
Since it uses a 21.2 kWh battery pack, it offers a claimed electric-only range of more than 100 km. This battery pack can be charged by an 11 kW AC charger, and the car can run up to 140 km/h of top speed on pure electric power. An optional 60 kW DC charger can add 10-80 per cent juice in just 20 minutes.
It also gets additional bracing at the front and rear axles, an 11 mm wider front track, and an adaptive suspension with Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus settings. Additionally, the braking system has been optimised as per the hybrid powertrain’s regeneration system.
Styling updates
The AMG package includes the new AMG-styled bumpers with a splitter on the front and a diffuser at the back, an illuminated AMG grille, flared front wheel arches, a ducktail spoiler, large air dams on the front bumper, and circular quad exhaust tips at the rear. Meanwhile, the optional AMG Plus Package adds red calipers and a microfibre-wrapped steering wheel.
On the inside, it gets AMG sports seats, an AMG steering wheel, a Mercedes Superscreen layout with a 12.3-inch digital driver screen, a 14.4-inch central infotainment screen, and an optional passenger screen. It will also get trim-specific upholstery materials that are carved out from recycled materials.
Mercedes will reveal the prices of the AMG E 53 Hybrid on July 23.
