The 2026 Tata Punch EV has secured a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests, scoring strongly in both adult and child occupant protection.
The Punch EV managed 31.09 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection, while its child occupant protection score stood at 45 out of 49. That puts the compact electric SUV among the stronger performers tested under the Indian crash-test programme.
Strong performance in frontal and side impacts
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Punch EV offered good protection for the head, neck and lower body of the occupants. The chest and lower legs received an ‘adequate’ protection rating.
The electric SUV also performed well in the side movable deformable barrier test, with good protection recorded for the head and abdomen. Chest protection was rated as adequate. The Punch EV also delivered good overall protection in the side pole impact test.
Child protection
The Punch EV’s performance with child occupants was equally noteworthy. The SUV scored a perfect 24/24 in the dynamic assessment, while the child restraint system installation score was 12/12. It also received 9/13 points in the vehicle assessment.
The test vehicle was equipped with dual front airbags, head curtain and chest airbags, ISOFIX mounts, a seat belt reminder and electronic stability control.
Another 5-star result for the Punch
This isn’t the first time the Punch name has made headlines for safety. The petrol-powered Punch has also earned a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, while the earlier Punch EV had already secured a 5-star rating under the same testing programme.
For the 2026 Punch EV, however, the latest result gives buyers another reason to consider the compact electric SUV. It is already a relatively easy-to-live-with EV for city use, and now has a crash-test score to add to its list of strengths.
