Skoda India to launch EVs in limited numbers soon: Peaq, Epiq, Elroq

Key highlights

  • Skoda India announces its future plans
  • The brand is considering bringing EVs in limited numbers
  • Models like the Peaq, Elroq, Epiq could be launched as CBUs

At the recent reveal event of the Skoda Slavia facelift, the brand also announced exciting new models like the Superb diesel and the Octavia vRS. However, during a media interaction, Ashish Gupta, Skoda Auto India Brand Director, revealed that the company is evaluating bringing the global EV models to India in limited numbers.

While he did not confirm which models will come, he did confirm that these will be brought as CBU models. Skoda sells Epiq, Elroq, and the latest Peaq EV in the global market, and the brand has received a good response from international customers.

Moreover, Ashish added that the new CAFE norms are pushing the company to evaluate its future models, and bring EVs to remain competitive. Additionally, he added that the rapidly growing market and new EVs are also a primary reason to launch EV models in India soon.

While the brand is not aiming for sales figures via the CBU route, the EV launch will definitely position Skoda strongly against the rivals. Further, customers will get to experience a new side of mobility from the brand, which Skoda’s Indian customers have been deprived of till now.

Gupta also added that earlier the brand was considering the hybrid technology, but the tax structure has changed everything. In fact, hybrids have stayed at 2% in market share, while the EVs have grown rapidly, which has made Skoda to bring its EV models in India.

The complete goal is to demonstrate the Indian customers about Skoda’s flagship EV technology and products via these upcoming models. Most likely, the Skoda Peaq EV, which happens to be the brand’s flagship model, will be launched in India.

Meanwhile, he did not reveal the exact launch timeline for these models. We believe that the first Skoda EV could be introduced in India by early 2027.
