Tesla has revealed that it has sold 600 units of the Model Y electric SUV in India since its launch. While this figure might not look big, it is indeed good news for Tesla, which has been struggling with a poor response from the Indian market.
Big price cut has helped Tesla Model Y sales
As per the official data revealed by the company, 115 units of the Model Y were sold in June 2026. This is the new monthly sales record for the brand, which was previously 69 units sold in September and December 2025.
Mind you, Tesla had dropped the price of the Model Y by up to Rs 9 lakh in June 2026. This has proved immensely effective for the EV maker, as the monthly sales nearly doubled. Currently, the Model Y is priced between Rs 50.89 lakh and Rs 61.99 lakh in India (ex-showroom).
If we observe its rivals like the BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BMW iX1 LWB, the Model Y is positioned at a steep premium. The price reduction not only made it more worthwhile, but customers also got the Tesla brand name, which they had previously avoided due to the higher sticker price.
With that said, the Model Y is slowly picking up sales in India. We believe that further updates and improved features in the future will keep the momentum going for Tesla India.
The Indian-spec Model Y is available in five-seater and six-seater (Model Y L) options. The five-seater version features a 64kWh battery that offers 500 km of range with an RWD configuration. The six-seater Model Y Premium Long Range version gets a bigger 84.2kWh battery that offers 661 km of range. Meanwhile, the range-topping Model Y L comes with a dual-motor configuration, offering 681 km of range.
