MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV launched at Rs 25.69 lakh, offers 1,100 km range

JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk PHEV, adding a plug-in hybrid powertrain to its new SUV.

Unlike the Hector Tomahawk EV, which is offered in both 5 and 7-seat configurations, the PHEV is available exclusively as a seven-seater. MG is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service ownership option.

Bookings are now open across MG dealerships and through the company’s website. Test drives and deliveries of the Hector Tomahawk PHEV will begin in November 2026.

Battery and Powertrain

The big talking point here is the powertrain. The Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, a 20.5 kWh battery pack, a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

The electric motor produces 148 kW (around 201 hp) and 237Nm, while the petrol engine develops 75 kW (around 102 hp) and 125 Nm. MG claims an electric-only range of more than 115 km, which means the SUV should be capable of handling a sizeable chunk of daily commuting without using its petrol engine.

The PHEV is also considerably more than an efficiency-focused hybrid. MG says it can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in approximately 9 seconds. The electric drive system uses a 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit, while the DHT has a claimed 98.8% transmission efficiency. The dedicated hybrid engine itself is claimed to deliver 43.2% thermal efficiency.

There are six drive modes i.e. Pure EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid Boost, Regeneration, Pure Engine and Engine Drive + Charge. In simple terms, the Tomahawk can use the battery and motor independently, combine the engine and motor when more performance is required, or use the engine to drive the wheels while charging the battery.

With a 52-litre fuel tank and a fully charged 20.5 kWh battery, MG claims the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can deliver a combined range of more than 1,100 km.

Charging

Charging is handled through a CCS2 connector. Using the supplied 3.3 kW AC charging setup, MG estimates a 10-100 percent charge in around 7.5 hours. It can also accept DC charging at up to 25 kW, with a claimed 30-80 percent charging time of around 35 minutes.

Seven seats and a spacious cabin

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV retains the same large SUV proportions as the EV. It measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,770 mm in height, with a 2,810 mm wheelbase. MG also claims 230 mm of ground clearance at the battery.

Being a seven-seater, the Tomahawk PHEV gets a flexible second row with 60:40 split, sliding and reclining functions, along with a tip-and-tumble mechanism for accessing the third row. The brochure lists 192 litres of boot space with all three rows in use, increasing to 528 litres with the third row folded.

The cabin gets an Almond Brown and Carbon Black theme, front ventilated seats, a six-way powered driver’s seat with memory and auto-retract functionality, and a four-way powered co-driver’s seat. There is also a dual-pane panoramic Cockpit SkyRoof.

At the centre of the dashboard is a 15.6-inch HD Grand View Display, paired with an 8.8-inch multi-information display and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system.

Plenty of technology onboard

As expected from a new MG, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV is loaded with connected technology.

It gets i-SMART 3.0 with more than 80 connected features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital Bluetooth key with key sharing, OTA updates and a GenAI-powered voice assistant capable of understanding more than 30 Hinglish commands.

MG has also added a bunch of lifestyle-oriented features, including Nap Mode, Pro Pet Mode, Camp Mode, Quiet Mode, Energise Mode and Smoking Mode.

And then there is the rather unusual Starmaanch Karaoke app, which brings more than 8,000 karaoke tracks to the infotainment system. Because apparently, seven people in an SUV weren’t already enough of a potential singing competition.

Level 2 ADAS and V2H capability

Safety equipment includes six airbags as standard, ESP, traction control, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, brake assist, an electric parking brake with auto hold, TPMS, ISOFIX anchors and four-wheel disc brakes.

The SUV also gets a 360-degree HD camera with transparent chassis and wheel views, along with a Level 2 ADAS suite. This includes adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and prevention, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian AEB and intelligent headlamp control.

Another interesting feature is Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) capability. MG says the Hector Tomahawk can be used to power appliances, outdoor equipment and even a home using energy stored in its battery.

Warranty and colours

The first owner gets a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery, while MG SHIELD provides the PHEV with a 3-3-3 package comprising three years of unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, three years of roadside assistance and three labour-free services.

The PHEV will be available in Pearl White, Starry Black, Aurora Silver, Celadon Blue, Turquoise Green and Shadow Gold. Buyers can also choose from Turquoise Green + White and Celadon Blue + White dual-tone combinations.
