Exterior styling updates

While the new NX facelift is essentially unaltered dimensionally, the SUV does get a redesigned exterior. The fascia now features a new protruding grille with a spindle-like design that extends to the lower bumper. The front bumper has also been redesigned with sharp vertical air dams that merge into the new LED projector headlights, which now feature twin daytime-running LED light bars.

The side profile is almost unaltered, save for the new alloy wheels that range from 18 to 20 inches. The F-Sport variant gets the new dual-spoke 20-inch sporty alloy wheels. At the back, it gets a new set of LED taillights that are connected via an LED light bar, and a new rear bumper design.

Lexus ES-like interior design

The interior design of the new NX facelift has also undergone a massive upgrade. The dashboard and the steering wheel are now identical to the new Lexus ES that was introduced earlier this year.

The cabin now packs a toned-down and minimalist design with a large 14-inch floating central infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital driver console. The climate control buttons have been replaced by touch-sensitive buttons, whereas the new three-spoke steering wheel gets the ‘Lexus’ lettering and physical button controls for MID and ADAS.

The central console area has also been redesigned with new features like a toggle-like gearshift button, which replaces the conventional gearshift lever to free up more space. Overall, the redesigned door cards, new seats, and the new dual-tone cabin theme offer an improved and more plush interior experience.

Some of the key features of the new NX facelift include: a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system (optional), a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, electric front seat adjustment with heating and ventilation, wireless phone charging, cabin LED ambient lighting, and more.

Improved powertrain and efficiency

The new NX is being offered in two powertrains globally: NX 450h+ and NX 350h. The NX 450h+ is a plug-in hybrid model that now packs a bigger 23 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers 307 bhp of power, which is 15 bhp more than the outgoing model. It also offers a pure EV range of 100 km, as opposed to 72 km in the previous model. The 450h+ variant is available with an all-wheel-drive configuration as standard.

The second variant is the NX 350h, which is also available in India. It is powered by the same engine and battery as the Lexus ES. It uses a 2.5-litre self-charging hybrid engine that offers 199 bhp. However, the big change is the reduced battery weight, which now tips at 23.5 kg from the previous 32.7 kg. This engine is available with FWD and AWD.

Along with these changes, Lexus has also redesigned the e-axle and stiffened the chassis to offer more agility and better handling. The new NX facelift is expected to launch in India by the end of this year. The current model is priced at Rs 67.59-74.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
