India Kawasaki Motors has introduced the MY27 Z650RS in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 7.83 lakh. The neo-retro motorcycle continues with its familiar design and mechanical package, combining the styling of Kawasaki’s classic Z models with modern equipment.
What’s new
The Z650RS retains its distinctive 1970s-inspired design, including a round LED headlamp, sculpted fuel tank and dual-pod analogue-style instrumentation. The latter incorporates a modern LCD screen, while smartphone connectivity is provided through Kawasaki’s RIDEOLOGY THE APP. The MY27 model is available in a single Metallic Ocean Blue colour.
Power comes from the familiar 649 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing 68PS at 8,000 rpm and 64 Nm at 6,700 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox and an Assist & Slipper Clutch. Kawasaki says the engine is tuned to deliver strong low- and mid-range performance, while the clutch reduces lever effort and helps prevent rear-wheel hop during aggressive downshifts.
The motorcycle uses a trellis frame with a telescopic front fork and horizontal back-link rear suspension. Wheel travel stands at 125 mm at the front and 130 mm at the rear. The 800mm seat height, slim chassis and manageable power delivery are aimed at making the Z650RS approachable for everyday riding.
The Z650RS also gets Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) with two modes. Other highlights include LED lighting, retro-style twin-dial instrumentation, smartphone connectivity and cast wheels designed to resemble traditional wire-spoke units. The 12-litre fuel tank keeps the motorcycle’s central section relatively slim.
Deliveries of the MY27 Z650RS are scheduled to begin from mid-September 2026.
Final thoughts
The MY27 Z650RS stays true to the formula that makes the motorcycle distinctive. There are no dramatic changes, but that is hardly the point here. Classic styling, a smooth 649cc twin and modern essentials such as traction control and smartphone connectivity continue to give the Z650RS its own identity in Kawasaki’s middleweight line-up.
