Toyota has been testing the next-generation Fortuner for a long time in the global market. Although elusive, the test mules get spotted once in a while. The latest sighting of one of the test cars shows that the new Fortuner is nearing the final stage of development.
Spotted in the global market, the new spy shot shows the rear design of the new Fortuner. While it is camouflaged, we can immediately notice that the bodyline is different from the current model. The new SUV appears to be more ‘squared-off’ from the sides, while the higher stance is also clearly visible.
The rear, in particular, features a roof-mounted spoiler that has been redesigned. The boot is also completely redesigned, which appears to be hiding a new set of curves and creases, along with the new lights. Due to the road testing rules, the taillights have not been covered completely; hence, we can see the new LED pattern and new C-shaped lights.
The taillights also feature blacked-out elements, which hint that this could be a TRD variant. Leaving these assumptions aside, we know that the new-generation Fortuner will arrive in the global market next year. A big change that is being widely anticipated is the new hybrid engine, which could also make it to the Indian market.
So, when will the new-gen Fortuner launch in India? Well, this question remains unanswered as of now. After the global spec is revealed next year, Toyota will bring the Indian-spec model and test it locally, which could easily push the debut to 2028. What we do know is that the new Fortuner will bring a complete revamp from the current model, which is getting too old and outdated in India.
