Tata Motors has launched the all-new Aeris, a compact sedan designed specifically for personal and family buyers. Prices start at Rs 5.29 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 6.29 lakh for the iCNG version, ex-showroom Delhi. Bookings are now open, with the Aeris available through Tata.Cars dealerships across India.

Tata is positioning the Aeris differently from conventional compact sedans by developing it exclusively for private buyers. The company says the car will not be offered in the fleet segment, which will continue to be addressed through its dedicated Xpres-T brand.

Powertrain

The Aeris gets a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, available with a five-speed manual or AMT. The iCNG version adds the option of an AMT as well, making the Aeris one of the models in the segment to combine CNG with an automated transmission. Tata uses a twin-cylinder CNG setup, allowing it to retain the practical benefits of a sedan. The engine produced 86 PS and 113 Nm in the petrol only mode and 75.5 PS and 96.5 Nm in the CNG mode.

Design and features

On the design front, the Aeris gets LED headlamps and DRLs, a wide lower grille, diamond-cut aero alloy wheels, connected LED tail-lamps and a prominent deck lid. Higher variants also feature a dual-tone black roof, textured wheel-arch cladding and chrome-line door handles.

The cabin focuses heavily on technology and comfort. Features include AeroLux ventilated leatherette seats, an OpenView dashboard, dual screens, a 26.03cm HD touchscreen, a 12.7cm digital instrument cluster and a first-in-segment Dual Smartphone Deck with wireless charging. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected-car technology, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and 65W Type-C chargers are also offered. Boot capacity stands at 419 litres.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD and CSC, Hill Hold Control and ISOFIX mounts as standard. Higher variants add a Blind View Monitor, MultiView Digital Video Recorder and a 360-degree HD camera with 2D and 3D views. The iCNG versions also get additional leak detection and thermal protection systems.

Final thoughts

The Aeris marks a different approach to the compact sedan segment by separating private-car requirements from fleet-focused priorities. Rebranding the car was a good move as people can now associate the Aeris for a refreshed private only product.
